Thank you to everyone who subscribed in the past month. Many moons ago when The Husk first launched, in addition to profiles of amazing Micronesian creators, I was also sending out links to things I found interesting.
It's been a while since I've done that so I will try my hand at it again.
Here are some links I've stumbled upon that I think might interest you.
The famed Dolphins Pacific in Palau struggled to feed the dolphins during the pandemic.
Two of three #TeamMicronesia athletes representing the Federated States of Micronesia did well in their races. According to the FSMOC:
Taeyanna Adams, a breaststroker from Pohnpei, finished fourth in her heat of the 100 breast with a seasonal best of 1:25.36.
Tasi Limtiaco, a medley specialist originally from Chuuk, also swam a season’s best in the 200 IM with a time of 2:07.69 which was less than a second off of his personal best.
The third FSM athlete Scott Fiti, from Chuuk, will run his race on July 31.
It’s Taeyanna’s and Tasi’s first time at Olympics. Great job, athletes! Best of luck!
If you know me, I might have sent you a TikTok video that reminded me of you. Here’s how TikTok pegs your interests within minutes, thanks to a fascinating investigation by the Wall Street Journal. If you have 13 minutes to scroll Facebook or Instagram or TikTok, you have 13 minutes to watch this video. It's a must-watch for anyone using the internet.
Speaking of TikTok, I am neck-deep in witchtok/spiritualtiktok videos and most of the people there say Atomic Habits is mandatory reading if you want to get your life in order. I agree. I'm halfway through it now and I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking to build a new habit or break a "bad" one. I am listening to the audiobook. 1
Other things to read:
You can learn to fly an airplane in Guam. I wrote about it for the Pacific Island Times.
I also wrote about reading Dr. Joakim Peters' book "Coconut Ratz & Kung Fu Cowboys" a while ago in a column for the Pacific Daily News.
My friend John Borja wrote about a company with roots in Pohnpei that's working to make sustainable and waste-free products more accessible.
Switching focus, The US and FSM agreed on a plan to build a base in FSM, according to the Pacific Island Times. Always interesting to note the developments in the region, considering the tensions between the U.S. and China.
Something to flip through if you’ve got time to kill:
The Washington Post gave out awards for iPhone photography. It’s pretty impressive what folks can do with the iPhone these days. For example, I used mine recently to Google how to turn it off. lol. (True story)
It’s Friday on Guam which means it's the end of the workweek.
Thank you for reading. Write to you again soon.
Cheers,
Jasmine
