I got to write about Geana Stark, makeup artist, Belauan content creator, for my column in the Pacific Daily News.
There are a few more things I’d like to add to the information published in that piece. For one, Geana just released a new video on her makeup channel, so check it out and don’t forget to subscribe to her channels. Check out GnT Family on YouTube too!
Geana is Palauan and said she was born and raised in Palau. I came across the channel she shares with her boyfriend when I was looking up some Palauan music then looked up Palau language a couple of months ago.
The 25-year-old lives in Florida now and makes beauty content on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and Tiktok.
She said she was nervous at first putting herself out there but eventually became more comfortable being on camera.
Another thing, Geana recommended following these Micronesian creators:
I would suggest these beautiful people; @Colleen Hobson, @IslandGirl 680, @Klumy T, and @ISLANDERMUA.
I can’t thank Geana enough for agree her time to answer my questions! Also, I’m really happy to add the women above to my YouTube subscriptions, so thanks Geana!

Check out Frank Ishizaki’s TedTalk as part of TedxHagåtña! The sound isn’t great but it is definitely worth a watch.
Frank Ishizaki is a retired FBI special agent and has also served as chief of police, director of corrections, homeland security advisor, senator in the 29th Guam Legislature, and a security consultant. He has also written opinion columns for the Pacific Daily News and has hosted talk shows for KUAM and K-57 radio. Frank teaches criminal justice and public administration courses for the University of Guam. He is a UOG Distinguished Alumnus and is UOG’s first Chemistry graduate. Frank holds a M.S. in Forensic Chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh. He started the Guam Police Department’s crime laboratory in the 70s and became the first FBI agent recruited from Guam.
Also, during the war, a lot of folks on the island just never got their diploma. Some honorary diplomas were handed out in recent years for war survivors. It’s always a touching story. The latest one went to Tan Ana Acfalle Macek. From the KUAM article:
When asked what advice she would give to young people, Macek said, "Take up gardening...Learn to nurture something and watch it grow. It takes patience, faith, and hard work. This generation needs these to survive in the world and to be happy."
The Pacific Island Times reported that the FSM offered to be a regional transshipment hub for China’s commerce. It’s an interesting move, considering tensions between America and China.
As Tan Ana says, this generation needs to, among other things, be happy. I stumbled upon this post from Happify, titled “How to Live a Life Without Regrets.” It’s a massive infographic sprinkled with some thoughts and prayers to improve your life, aka BE HAPPY.
I’m a sucker for self-help in the form of infographics so here you go.
My favorite bit from this post was, “25% of us regret sharing selfies.”
I understand why, but also I don’t understand why.
I quit a job last week and then my friend John shared this Bloomberg story with me titled, “Employees Are Quitting Instead of Giving Up Working From Home.”
And basically yes lol. For as long as I can I’m choosing the remote life. Catch me in an office never.
If you are on Guam and have some time, why not check out the Imbentibu Famalao’an art show at the Castro Art Gallery in Tumon Sands. The pieces will be up until June 26. I wrote about it for the Pacific Island Times.
If you don’t read another newsletter before June 20, set your alarms: Guam UFC Fighter Roque Martinez will go against Josh Parisian on June 19 in the states in Las Vegas. Martinez is due for a win and he said he feels good about this one. Send him positive winning vibes! I got to speak with Roque for a Guam Daily Post story.
Next Monday I’ll be back with another Micronesian Monday feature.
Thank you for reading. Write to you again soon.
Cheers,
Jasmine
