…things from Micronesia
Palau President Whipps said he’d like to address outmigration of Palauans in his talks with U.S. officials over Palau’s Compact of Free Association, per Tia Belau.
Speaking of the Compact, Tia Belau also reports that the U.S. has indicated to President Whipps that they’d like talks to come to a speedy conclusion. Per the Pacific Island Times, the economic provision of the Compact is set to expire in September 2024.
I’ve long been a Chuukese Goddess stan and was happy to see her profiled in Chikin Meļeļe. Definitely worth a read!
…requests I have
Guys, I’m embarrassed. (Cue: Are you not embarazzed. This is really embarazzing.)1None of the winners randomly generated have reached out to me about their prizes. In the interest of transparency, I can’t keep these prizes in my house. They stare at me judging me for not knowing how to run a giveaway. Who knew that Raffle Prizing is a marketable, viable skill in this economy??????? Anyway. I have a couple of requests. The first one: Please forgive me.
The second: Please enter this giveaway redux. Literally, the first five people who reply to this email get a prize. You don’t even have to say much in your reply. I just need five people to take these prizes off my hands!!!!!!!!! Like reply to this with: “Are you not embarazzed, this is really embarazzing.” And the first five people who reply will win. Thems the rules. I’ll mail the prize to you after I crawl out of my shame hole.2
…new (to me) book
Father Francis Hezel has a new five-part series out titled “Micronesian Origins” available for free here https://wheresfran.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Micronesian-Origins-LAYOUT-final.pdf?fbclid=IwAR33VKq-L59QAVEl69xPK6ap1CScP-VN9YoqtcUSTMmGuMQ5I_7DGah04Fs
Father Hezel has long been a prominent voice in the region. His work across Micronesia is invaluable. I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing him a couple of times for articles and 100 percent of my conversations with him have been insightful and thought-provoking. I enjoy his columns in the Guam Daily Post. I’m excited to dive into this work too.
Thank you, as always, for reading. Have a wonderful weekend!3

Mercury is retrograde so if there are typos in this email I’d rather not know about it. I’m hanging on by a thread, literally counting down the hours to the weekend, and this full moon came with some very big announcements this week that really rocked my world!!!!!!
