In this Micronesian Monday Feature, we learn a bit more about Misdil Creations, which offers stickers and shirts showcasing Palau where the creators are from.
The imaginative minds behind Misdil Creations have come up with an extensive line of designs, most of which are representative of the Palauan culture and landscape. Gina and her partners Rock and Becca have 90 apparel designs for women, men, and kids, and over 60 decal designs in stock plus they’ll conjure up a custom product to your liking.
Gina, who was born in Palau and is now based in California, said she has always been into drawing, designing and DIYs. Her partners Rock and Becca were also born in Palau.
“Recently, my sisters and Rock recommended I starting doing shirt designs and stickers since I’m always playing around on our iPad,” Gina said. “They invested on my creativity and persuaded me to start.”
Boosted by the support of her loved ones, Gina decided to give it a try. She started with stickers and decals a year ago.
Now, the shop has expanded to t-shirts, hoodies, reusable cold cups, hot cups, and customized tumblers. It was with her family’s support that Misdil Creations was created and Gina makes it a point to ensure she continues to support her family.
“I want to say this is a full-time thing but I want my time with family to always come first. That’s why I have my processing time to be only during weekdays,” she said.
While Misdil Creations is primarily looking to outfit Palauans with a bold design that reminds them of home, they also have stickers and t-shirts for the general shopper who just wants a slice of island style.
Take this hibiscus sticker, for example. Or this sticker. And this t-shirt. Misdil Creations even offers a tee for people in the PCOS “cyster”hood.
Even son, most of Misdil Creations are fashioned with the Palauan customer in mind.
“What inspires our designs is home, the traditions, cultures, and people,” Gina said.
So far, their best-selling items are their Biib decal, biib t-shirt, and ngelekel Belau shirt. The biib is a Palauan fruit dove. Misdil Creations composed a decal with the biib in the center of a compass accompanied by Palau’s coordinates. Very IFYKYK.
Gina said she hopes people see their products and fall in love with the island, the people, and traditions.
To others considering putting their creations out there, she added, “I also want other people who are thinking about starting their own business to do it! Do your research, ask questions, and if you really want to, DO IT!”
